About RLWA

Introduction

RLWA is a woman owned firm, established by Renate’ L. Woods, P.E. in 1992, for the purpose of providing structural engineering services. The firm has one office in Arlington, Texas with nine employees.  RLWA is SBE and DBE certified through HUB (State of Texas) and NCTRCA (North Central Texas Region).  The four licensed engineers on our staff provide over 90 years of combined structural engineering experience.  RLWA has earned a reputation as an engineering firm capable of managing and performing unique and complex structural engineering projects as well as evaluations of historic structures, condition assessments, and forensic engineering.  RLWA has built this reputation by providing its clients with engineering services using specialized skills, proven experience, innovative solutions, and sound engineering judgment.

Philosophy

RLWA is committed to providing sound and cost-effective engineering solutions, while never losing sight of long term sustainability goals or our responsibility to protect the health and welfare of the public.  We are not satisfied with simply producing “workable designs”.  New technology and innovation are constantly leading the way to more efficient built environments. We strive to keep abreast of new trends including LEED design, BIM (Building Information Modeling).  Our utilization of REVIT (BIM software) allows for more efficient and effective collaborative efforts with our clients, resulting in better coordinated and detailed design documents.  Currently 75% of our new construction projects are completed in REVIT.

Services

The Services offered by the company include, but are not limited to, the structural design of industrial, commercial, educational, governmental, medical, multi- and single family housing, and religious structures.  RLWA also offers an expertise in forensic engineering and rehabilitation of existing structures.  Forensic engineering is the professional practice of evaluating the performance of existing buildings, structures, or individual building components, sometimes for litigation purposes, but oftentimes for rehabilitation or remediation purposes.  This forensic expertise has allowed RLWA the opportunity to study long term building behaviors and modify design processes to improve building structural performance, sometimes learning from the mistakes of others or improving on common design processes employed in the past.  This invaluable knowledge and experience allow us to better serve our clients’ interest in both new and existing structures.
